Clipboard

Build a collection across searches

The Exempla Clipboard is a table inside your project. It collects Concordance occurrences that you want to compare, revisit, or export together. You can search for one pattern, keep selected occurrences, run a different search, and add more without losing what you already collected.

From Concordance to Clipboard

Add exactly the occurrences you need

First run a Concordance search. Use the selection boxes to choose individual results, the current page, or all results. Then choose Add to Clipboard.

1
Choose results

Select individual rows or use the selection control above the table. Selecting the current page normally selects up to 1,000 results.

2
Add them

Exempla reports how many occurrences were added, how many duplicates were skipped, and how long the operation took.

3
Continue searching

Run another query or change the scope. The collected rows remain until you remove them.

Understand the six Clipboard columns

Each row keeps the information needed to identify and interpret one occurrence. The stored content remains complete even when a long value is shortened visually to fit the table.

Speaker

The speaker code associated with the occurrence.

Left Context

The words immediately before the result.

Token

The word, phrase, or span returned by the search.

Right Context

The words immediately after the result.

Source

The corpus text that contains the occurrence.

Line

The logical transcript line used to locate it in the source.

Only the current page is drawn on screen

The Clipboard stores its rows compactly and displays one page at a time. This prevents millions of visual table cells from being loaded at once. The footer shows the page number, visible row range, and total number of stored rows.

Illustration using the first 15 real rows; scroll the table to inspect them.

Selections are page-specific. Moving to another page does not select its rows automatically. This lets you review and remove a precise subset without affecting rows on other pages.

Open an occurrence in its original context

Double-click a row

Exempla opens the source in Transcript view and highlights the occurrence.

Keep the collected row

Opening the source does not remove the occurrence and does not replace the project’s Active selection.

Remove only what you intend to remove

Delete selected rows

Highlight one or more visible rows, right-click, and choose Delete Selected Rows. You can also press Delete or Backspace while the table is active.

Clear Clipboard

Choose Clear in the toolbar, or Clear Clipboard in the right-click menu. After confirmation, every stored row is removed.

Export the full collection or a reviewed subset

Toolbar Export

Exports every row stored in the Clipboard, across all pages.

Export Selected Rows…

Exports only highlighted rows on the current page. Open this command from the table’s right-click menu.

Export All Rows…

Exports the complete Clipboard from the right-click menu.

Large exports show progress and a Cancel control. Cancelling does not clear the Clipboard and does not leave a partial CSV behind. The first CSV line contains the column headings.

Memory and storage

Exempla warns before a collection becomes very large

A very large collection can take more working memory, disk space, export time, and project storage. If one addition contains at least 100,000 results, or would bring the Clipboard to at least 100,000 rows, Exempla recommends exporting the Concordance results directly. You can choose Export Results…, Cancel, or Add Anyway.

If you choose Add Anyway for 5,000 or more rows, the addition runs responsively with progress and a Cancel control. Cancelling leaves that batch unapplied, so the Clipboard is not left half updated.

When the stored Clipboard reaches 100,000 rows or an estimated 250 MB, Exempla offers three choices:

Export and Clear…

Choose a CSV location. The Clipboard clears only after the export completes successfully.

Keep for Now

Continue working with the stored collection.

Clear Clipboard

Remove the full collection without exporting it.

The Clipboard is saved with the project

Save the project to preserve the Clipboard count, every stored row, and its pages. After reopening, you can continue reviewing the same collection. If you clear it and then save, the saved project correctly contains an empty Clipboard.
